Q2's Exposure Compensation Wheel

The Leica Q2 Exposure Wheel is located on the top right side of the camera body. This feature alone makes the Q2M even more intriguing than it already is. The Exposure Compensation dial allows you to instantly adjust the image's exposure—whether you want the shot to be brighter or darker. It is a useful feature, yet one that comes with its own pitfalls. This is because—provided Auto-ISO is enabled, of course—it works by altering the ISO sensitivity. If you desire a brighter image but have your shutter speed set to, say, 1/2000 of a second and your aperture to f/16, the camera will attempt to achieve this by boosting the ISO to a very high value. If you fail to take this into account, the result—as demonstrated in this example—will naturally be significant ISO noise. In short, you need to know exactly what you are doing. If you can manage to adjust the image's brightness without resorting to Exposure Compensation, that is generally the approach you should take. A quick tip: Simply make it a habit to keep an eye on the Auto-ISO value displayed on the screen.
