"How" to Photograph
Can you only photograph with an M-D like you would with a film camera? Is the M-D the only true way? I think not. You have to ask yourself, "How do you like to photograph?" Yes, I used to enjoy taking photos with my X-T2 and its back LCD, holding the camera freely away from my body. And before I knew what zone focusing was, I even used autofocus. But today I like to take my time. I just want to take "a clean picture." No spray and pray. You change as a photographer. And I don't need an M-D to photograph in "my style."
I even prefer the Live View of the EVF. You see how the picture will look. Instantly. Composition, getting it right right away. Not having to crop afterward. Taking your time.
Also seeing the image immediately in black and white. Of course, you continue to train yourself to see the world in black and white. That's what makes us black and white photographers. The ability to anticipate how shadows and light will behave in monochrome. I can confidently say I mastered this quite well with my old M8. It's simply a wonderful aid. And you see the world as if through a portal. Being able to instantly look into another dimension through the EVF Live View is incredibly satisfying for me.
Also, the question of "what accessories" you have on the camera. Many people like to use a square lens hood on an M that's larger than the actual lens. I'm not a big fan of that. But tastes differ. The same goes for the Thumb Grip. It makes holding the camera considerably more comfortable. For me personally, though, the Q loses the beautiful shape of the M body.
You should use what you enjoy. What "makes photography what it is for you."
