Photography, a philosophy
What makes photography exciting? What fascinates it about us photographers, us artists?
I see it from a rather melancholic perspective. If you don't want to be an active part of society, if you've turned your back on it, what are you then, living only for yourself? You're a ghost, an observer. You don't actively participate in life, but you do observe. You're part of the whole without contributing, for whatever reason. Be it through disappointment, or from a misanthropic or nihilistic point of view. Everyone has their own motivations. For me, at least, I see the world as rather dark. A Silent Hill wouldn't be horror for me, but pure relaxation. (I'm explicitly talking about the atmosphere here.) The perfect solitude. And so I photograph for myself. I see life, I see the spirit of the times, but I don't intervene. I don't do street photography to connect with people. No. My pictures are as empty of people as possible.
Anyone who truly photographs knows why. And that's what makes this work, this documentation of time, so valuable.
